Sunday I talked about how to Recession Proof Your Finances. The recession has hit everyone I know and it’s hit pretty hard. Most people are getting help from one of two places; Warren Buffet or Jimmy Buffett. However, God has a plan that is a 100% recession proof guarantee. Here it is:
Don’t act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants you to do. Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, and making music to the Lord in your hearts. And give thanks for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Eph. 5:17-20
- Don’t act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants you to do.
Be a good steward of the resources God has given you. Many times we are wasting the resources God has already given us. Many times we already have the money we need. Think of every dollar as an investment and begin to prioritize the resources God has given you. That’s what Michele Cornwell has done.
- Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit.
What are you “under the influence of?” Being under the influence of stuff leads to many of our financial miscues. Instead, be under the influence of the Holy Spirit.
- Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, and make music to the Lord in your hearts.
Praise God in the face of financial uncertainty. Laura’s grandpa suffered from Sundowners syndrome. Whenever they put on a tape of his favorite old hymns he would call down. But, when the tape stopped the dementia started back up. Why would that happen? “God inhabits the praises of His people.”
Think it sounds crazy? Watch the following video and take time to praise God in the midst of financial uncertainty and see if God doesn’t do the same thing for you.
- Give thanks for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Give thanks for the things God has already given you. We spend way too much energy focused on what we don’t have, instead of being thankful for what we do have. Make a list of all the things you have and see if God doesn’t strengthen your faith and resolve.
I pray that God will provide all that you need and He will get the glory and honor through your life in 2010.
