Good Friday: Prayers from the Cross

As a kid I looked forward to Easter Sunday because it meant I would wake up to find brand new church clothes and a clip on tie laid out across the bed.

I’m not sure exactly why, but growing up I didn’t pay much attention to Good Friday. However, without Friday there would be no Sunday.

When Jesus hung on the Cross that Friday He prayed four specific prayers. Take a moment, on this Good Friday, to read and reflect on these Prayers from the Cross.

  1. “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me”. Matthew 27:46
Maybe you feel abandoned by God.
Take a moment and express those feelings to God.
  2. “Father forgive them, for they know not what they do.” Luke 23:34
In His darkest hour Jesus continued to offer compassion and mercy for sinners.
Take a moment to pray for your friends and family that are far from God.
  3. “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.” Luke 23:46
Is there an area of your life that you need to commit to God?
Take a moment to confess and give up that area of your life to God.
  4. “It is finished.” John 19:30
The work and power of sin was finished that Friday on the Cross.
Take a moment to remember that the power of sin in your life is finished.

Tonight we will look at all four of these Prayers from the Cross. Join us at 6:18pm for a night of worship as we join together with Garnett Church to remember the incredible sacrifice Jesus made for you and me.
