Martin Luther. William Wilberforce. Mother Teresa.
“You don’t choose a cause. It chooses you.”

That statement challenges me. I like to be in control. I like to decide what I will do and what I will not do. But, it doesn’t work that way in the life of a Christ follower. In fact, it’s the exact opposite. We see this in the very first followers of Jesus.

One day as Jesus was walking along the shore of the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew throwing a net into the water, for they fished for a living. Jesus called out to them, “Come, follow me, and I will show you how to fish for people!” And they left their nets at once and followed him. Mark 1:16-18

Simon and Andrew didn’t get to choose. They were chosen.

This only makes you uncomfortable when you don’t trust God. There’s a peace that comes from knowing that all I have to do is follow and out of that will come the cause He has for me.

I don’t get to choose and I’m OK with that.
