THE BEST YEAR EVER

Making 2019 the best year ever is all in how you approach today. The sun rejoices like an athlete eager to run a race. Does that describe how you get up each day?

If you wake up groggy, cranky, and with a poor attitude you’ve just set the tone and direction for your day.

The power and ability to have a great day is in your hands. You get to decide what this day will be like no matter what happens around you or to you. You get to decide.

God has determined that you are needed today. That’s why you are still here. What would happen if you decided to begin your day with a positive mindset and eager to run the race? It would be the best day ever. Put a string of days together like that and next thing you know, you’ll have the best year ever.

How to wake up eager to run the race:

THE NIGHT BEFORE
Having a great start to your day starts the night before.

•Get ready for bed. 30 minutes before your head hits the pillow start winding down. Listen to a worship song, read a Psalm, say a prayer of gratitude (avoid prayer requests and just look back over your day and thank God for the good that happened).

•Go to bed. Set a consistent bed time and try to get 8 hours. I go to bed at 9 every night (even when we had 4 kids at home).

IN THE MORNING

•Don’t hit the snooze alarm. 9 more minutes will not make you a better person. It just sets a pattern for putting things off.

•Have a daily devotion time. Read scripture, pray, journal, listen to worship music, sit with God. Whatever works best for you. (If you have kids do this before they wake up)

•Pray a prayer of gratitude. Thank God for the good things in your life. (I always shoot for 10 things each morning)

•Plan your day. Nobody stumbled into greatness. If you want to have a great day make a plan and stick to your plan.

•Stop saying, “I’m not a morning person.” That only reinforces that mornings are always going to be a drag.

Remember that nobody lives this perfectly. I went to bed late last night, slept past my alarm this morning, and rushed through my daily devotion. The goal is not perfection. The goal is to do your best and when you don’t, just keep working at it.

If you’ve read this far I can tell you’re a determined person. You want to make an impact. You want your life to matter. It will and it does. Go make this the best day ever, so you can have the best year ever!
